Fourteen Jumpers returned for a new season of Juneau Jumpers. Welcome back to our Jumpers and their families: Connor, Amy, Katrina, Malina, Braith, Adella, Nani, Jack, Maddie, Garrett, Kelsey, Asianna, Kiah and Sophie.
The team is excited to welcome new Jumpers. Tryouts are scheduled Sundays: October 23 and 30 and November 6, from 3-5 pm each of those days at Auke Bay Elementary.
Interested Jumpers are encouraged to attend all three Sundays. The first two sessions will focus on skill building, and Jumpers will demonstrate the skills needed to make the team and work one-on-one with those who attend. Coaches and parent helpers will be on site. The official tryout day is November 6.
The Juneau Jumpers welcome kids in second grade and up to the tryout for the new season. Parents are welcome to stay and observe and visit with a returning parent or drop your jumper for the practice. Practice ends promptly at 5 pm each tryout day.
Juneau Jumpers is pleased to announce that Paula Kalbrener has volunteered to coach the team this year. Coach Paula has been teaching for 21 years and coaching jump rope for a quarter of a century! Without a doubt, the team will benefit from Coach Paula’s experience.
Paula is teaching a second/third grade class at Auke Bay Elementary this year and thoroughly enjoying being a new grandma. She looks forward to meeting returning and new jumpers.
The Board would like to say a big “Thank You!” to Karen for her many years of work with Juneau Jumpers. After nearly 20 years with the Jumpers, Karen will be stepping down as coach after the show on Saturday. We appreciate the countless hours she has dedicated to this team and wish her the very best!
As well as Karen’s departure, five seniors are graduating and leaving the team this year also (Congratulations!). They are leaving some big shoes to fill, so we will need lots of parent support and involvement to make this the team what we want it be. Look for an email this summer scheduling a Planning Meeting for next season! Juneau Jumpers will continue and we are looking forward to our new future.
Please thank Karen and give her a big hug when you see her!
I wanted to apologize for the confusion with the parent sign ups. Let me clarify a couple of things.
1. We only need 1 parent for each practice.
2. We were going to use sign up genius but it was not working so we linked it to our website!! Wahoo.
3. Sign up for 3 days from now until the end of the year show May 14th (we will add extra practices before the show but I will wait to put those dates on the calendar until Coach Karen lets us know what the exact dates will be. After May 14th practices are for the Nationals kids (and those who just want to come and practice).
4. Visit our sign-up page to indicate which date(s) you can volunteer.
5. If you are having trouble please contact me: Trish Dihle, 586-0150 or firstname.lastname@example.org
Thank you families for signing up! Thank you Amanda Lovejoy and Dave Klein for working on getting this sign up going.
It is time to start planning for the 2016 Regions Tournament. This season it is being hosted by Sitka on April 16, 2016. Unfortunately with the current ferry schedule, using the ferry will not be an option 🙁 As a result we will have to fly both directions. We need to start booking the airfares so we are asking you to please RSVP as to whether your jumper will be competing in Regions or not. It is our hope that all jumpers will travel to Sitka and compete as it is a great experience for the kids.
Our tentative plans are to leave JNU Friday, April 15th in the am (this will mean missing school that day). We are hoping to return Saturday night. It will make a long day on Saturday but it will mean one less night sleeping on a church floor!
We are currently working with Sitka to secure free or very cheap lodgings, which will most likely mean sleeping on a church floor as in previous years. We are hoping they will also find a bus to transport us.
With that in mind, we are estimating airfares to cost approximately $225 per person. We received some grant money to help offset the travel costs and the team can contribute $150 pp towards travel expenses. If we are able to secure free lodging and transportation, this means that the cost for families would be about $75 per jumper plus food costs.
Please reply to this email with a yes or no for your jumper(s). After we have an idea of the number of jumpers traveling we will start the reservation process. Once we are in that stage we will ask you for a deposit for your jumper’s ticket. Also feel free to email me with any questions!
Parent Challenge – Sitka and Far North have challenged our parents to participate in Regions. So far the only parent who has expressed a willingness to compete is Luke Dihle. Let’s gather some competitive spirit and recruit a few more JJ parents to participate! You can enter as many or few events as you like. It would be nice to see a couple of double dutch routines 🙂
